Groundhog Day

Hey, why not? They are just about as accurate as the paid forecasters, especially when it comes to forecasting six weeks out.

Groundhog Day 2011: Find your local groundhog

Punxsutawney Phil might just be the world's most famous weather-forecasting groundhog, but he's not the only one.

Whether or not Phil sees his shadow on Wednesday, his opinion isn't the only one that counts. The list below has a few other, perhaps more local, weather predicting rodents who may or may not foresee six more weeks of winter on Feb. 2, from AOL News.

  • Buckeye Chuck: Ohio's official groundhog since 1979
  • Staten Island Chuck: The groundhog of the Staten Island zoo who took a bite out of Mayor Bloomberg in 2009
  • Smith Lake Jake: Predicting the weather from Birminghom Zoo in Alabama
  • Wiarton Willie: Currently known as Wee Willie 2, the groundhog represents Ontario
  • General Beauregard Lee: The University of Georgia awarded this groundhog a "Doctor of Weather Prognostication"
  • Octorara Orphie: Lancaster, Pa.'s groundhog, often overshadowed by Phil
  • Dunkirk Dave: Representing Dunkirk, NY
  • French Creek Freddie: Representing French Creek, WV
  • Woodstock Willie: Representing Woodstock, IL
  • Malverne Mel: Representing Malverne, NY
  • Jimmy The Groundhog: Representing Sun Praire, WI
  • Stormy Marmot: Representing Aurura, CO
  • Shubenacadadie Sam: Representing Nova Scotia, Canada
  • Balzac Billy: Representing Alberta, Canada

So what are we in for? Six more weeks of winter? Or is spring around the corner?

Give us your guess below and let us know if you think Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow.
