Another victim of Trump's ignorance/malevolence is our Health and Human Services department, "run" by RFK, Jr. I'll bet Trump was enthralled with the idea of having a Kennedy in his cabinet, even if the only one left is the ex-heroin addict and brainworm victim. Here is another department that will take months or years to resurrect. They have cut thousands of workers across the FDA, the USDA and other entities under HHS, for what reason? Too many regulations? Yeah, who needs safe food and water?! Just keep your eyes open for some fresh roadkill.

With RFK Jr. heading up the Department of Health and Human Services, the Trump administration pays tremendous lip service to the ideal of a healthier America, rewriting the food pyramid, urging everyone to eat sauerkraut and drink kefir, and recruiting health influencers to spread their nutritional message across the interwebs.
The reality, however, is quite different than what the MAHA moms expected, as the recent cyclospora outbreaks and Trump’s vetoing the ban of cancer-causing pesticides prove.
Thanks to the sweeping federal workforce reductions implemented by Elon Musk’s DOGE con, thousands of probationary and recent-hire positions across the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) were eliminated, impacting food safety experts, ingredient reviewers, and lab scientists.
Included in those work force reductions were roughly 3,859 FDA positions and hundreds of roles within the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). These included targeted probationary employees who had not yet finished serving their initial year in their positions, including food additive reviewers, training specialists, and regional inspectors.
But wait there’s more.
Also ousted were several independent agency inspectors general who oversaw agricultural, health, and environmental policies, including long-serving USDA Inspector General Phyllis Fong.
So, it isn’t surprising to discover that the impact of these firings on our nation’s food safety infrastructure was devastating, leading to a plummeting in boots-on-the-ground inspections of foreign exporters to our supermarkets and grocery stores.
In addition, the loss of institutional knowledge in the agencies assigned to protect the safety of our food supply has been particularly damaging, with sudden staff losses creating severe gaps in lab work, infant formula safety tracking, and outbreak response.
