Dr. Lipschitz

Don't you just love that name?

This guy, Dr. David Lipschitz, is now my father's primary care physician/ gerontologist.  We were very lucky to run across (not run over) the guy, who is a nationally- if not world-renowned gerontologist practicing out of Benton, Arkansas, a sort-of suburb to Little Rock, Arkansas.

He's got a long resume:

Was Director of the Longevity Center at St. Vincent's...

Chair of the Research Committee of the American Geriatrics Society...

Chair of the Association of Directors of Geriatric Academic Programs...

He created and starred in a 26-part series on Public TV entitled "Aging Successfully with Dr. David"...

He has won two Aurora awards, two Telly awards and several other similar honors...

He's written two books on aging, "Breaking the Rules on Aging" (2001) and "Dr. David's First Health Book of More (not Less)" (2009)...

Writes a weekly syndicated column "Lifelong Health" via Creators.com...

Here's Dr. David appearing on FOX with ex-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (even a brief viewing of FOX leaves me feeling dirty and needing a shower).

Born in South Africa, Dr. David made his home in Arkansas (for some obscure reason).  Last month, he spent two hours getting to know my 86-year-old, somewhat demented (in the clinical sense) father, and afterward told us he wanted to be his only doctor and Primary Care Physician.  I mean, hey!  Alright!  In an odd way, my father is going to get much better elder care up in Central Arkansas than he would probably get here in Houston at the world-famous Medical Center.  C'est le vie!

Do you have an elder parent showing some signs of dementia?  I hope you will be as lucky as we have been at getting them some professional help.  Locking them in the basement (or attic) is considering to be somewhat unethical these days, so I wouldn't suggest you try that.  Your grandparents might have gotten away with it, but those were the bad old days.
