confederate flag

South Carolina actually took the Confederate flag down from the state capitol grounds on Friday, with over 10,000 people gathered to witness the event.

It was a stunning turnaround from one month ago, when removing the flag seemed impossible.

It's a damn shame that it took a mass murder of 9 innocent black people by a white supremacist/racist while they were in their church to shame South Carolina enough to remove the flag.

One can only hope that future change can come easier than this, without the accompanying tragedy.  We still have a long, long way to go before racism is a historical anomaly, but I salute South Carolina (cautiously).

Mississippi, are you paying attention?
