I get it now.
It took me awhile to figure it out, because I didn't quite realize the depth of Palin's religious wackiness, but McCain picked her to shore up the conservative, hard-right, fundie vote.
A lot of people thought he did it in an odd, ill-fated attempt to court Hillary voters who were still allegedly pissed at Obama. But I don't think Palin was intended to do that at all.
She is a hard-core conservative through and through. The fundies like Dobson and Weyrich just LOVE her. Hell, THEY vetted and picked her. If McCain were to truly lose the fundie vote, he'd be sunk. That's about the only constituency he has left. Well, the fundies and the very rich. And the deluded.
James Dobson swore he would NEVER vote for John McCain, but now that John has picked Palin, Dobson is wavering, saying he might support McCain. You watch, if Palin stays on the ticket, and I bet she does (unless Bristol is shown to be a real slut), Dobson is going to swing his whole putrid organization behind McCain.
And the flock will be fleeced once more. The true believers will be led once again to the slaughter. They never learn. It's the oldest trick in the book, and people fall for it every time.
Never pass up a chance to sit down or relieve yourself.
