HDMI 2.0 has just been officially announced, just in time for the world to adopt Ultra HD TVs, and it looks set to provide your AV set-up with some kick ass capabilities.
Announced by HDMI Licensing, the new connection standard boasts a bandwidth capacity of up to 18Gbps, which means it can carry 3,840 x 2,160 resolution video at up to 60fps. That's pretty impressive. It also supports up to 32 audio channels.
Fortunately, the physical connector itself is unchanged—which is relief for anyone concerned about backwards compatibility. Expect to see devices using the new standard late this year. [HDMI.org via Engadget]
