Below is an op-ed recently published in the Wall Street Journal (gag!) by Daniel C. Dennett, a Tufts University Professor and prominent atheist. When it appeared, the faith-heads had a field day calling Dennett "naive", "stupid", "simple-minded", and "totally ignorant of modern-day theology".
As if. As if today's "theologians" have developed some kind of bulletproof belief system that atheists cannot understand.
The over-the-top reaction from the faith-heads led me to think that Dennett must have really hit a nerve. After reading the op-ed, I don't really know what they got all excited about. Dennett is neither ignorant nor wrong, and he is echoing several recent studies that show that religions are losing adherents and the "un-affiliated" (aka atheists, agnostics, etc) are growing rapidly, like this recent Pew Poll.
